• People Are Already Getting Black Panther Tattoos, Because WakandaForever

    6 monthes ago - By Refinery29

The nation of Wakanda may be fictional, but it's still etched into the hearts of millions. And as someone who's already seen it twice, I can say that the hype is more than justifiable. Among my many reasons for loving the film, I was most left in awe by the painstaking detail that went into every h air, makeup , and wardrobe decision - which all honored African heritage and traditions. The cast gave young people of color a shining example of representation, and another reason to stand taller, as Michelle Obama said so eloquently. Unfortunately, one part of my identity has been crawling up and...

6 monthes ago - By Essence

You know what they say: timing is everything and the release of Marvel's Black Panther could not have come during a better season. Black people in America continue to boldly share their truth as people of color and particularly what it's like to be “othered.”
Though America is unique in the extent of how it has racialized Black bodies, the experience of being “othered” as a person of color is experienced globally. So for countless people, the Ryan Coogler-directed project is more than just a movie. The release of Black Panther is a pivotal moment in cultural history in which Black people...
